Birchip wins Skene Shield
The annual William Skene Memorial Trophy has been competed for by Target Rifle Clubs throughout Western Victoria since 1902.
This magnificent shield was donated by Thomas Skene of Marnoo in 1901 in memory of his son William, who was killed in the Boer War.
Eleven Rifle Clubs participated in the event this year. Seven clubs were eliminated in the preliminary rounds.
The remaining four clubs, Horsham, Geelong, Birchip and Kyneton, shot in the final held at Stawell on Saturday. Each Club fielded six-shooters, with the top four in each team to count.
The maximum a team could score was 420 points.
Birchip ran out winners for 2024 with a score of 410.33. Geelong was second with 406.28, followed by Horsham on 404.38, then Kyneton on 399.34.
Top Club shooters for the day were Adam McLennan of Kyneton, who scored 104.12, edged out Birchip’s Jodie Lamour on a count-back and shot 104.12. Next was Daryl Chappell of Geelong on 104.9 then Paul Rudolph of Horsham on 103.13.
