PEOPLE looking to get outside and be active now have a great opportunity thanks to a new fitness program provided by Horsham Rural City Council.

ACTIVE Horsham Health and Wellbeing Sessions is a program delivered by local fitness and wellbeing providers at Sawyer Park every Saturday at 9am and allows residents of all ages and fitness levels to take part in a variety of sessions.

YMCA personal trainer Ashleigh Freckleton said she was ready to kick off the first ACTIVE session of the year.

“We knew it was going to be a family-friendly approach … so we came prepared for that,” she said.

“It’s free, you don’t need to register. You just rock up.”

ACTIVE’s March 5 family group session had the program kicking off with a show of women, children, and even a dog.

Sessions are scheduled to continue till November with the next two weeks offering yoga and core sessions run by Planet Feelgood.

YMCA personal trainer Cassy Kelly said she’s looking forward to more locals joining in and giving the sessions a try.

“We think it’s a great initiative,” she said.

“As soon as you get a few people down here and you get a good vibe going, others out and about will say, “What’s going on? We’ll check it out.”

“We’re from YMCA, but there’s also others that will be onboard like Planet Feelgood.

“They have trained professionals taking the program so people can just come along and see if they like it.”

Horsham Rural City Council’s ACTIVE program was made possible thanks to the Victorian Government's COVID Safe Outdoor Activation fund.

Horsham Rural City Council mayor Robyn Gulline said the program was about getting the community active and together.

“The free ACTIVE Horsham Health and Wellbeing Sessions are a wonderful initiative, encouraging community members to come together for fun and fitness,” she said.

“Council continues to seek new and innovative ways to engage with and support the community.

“I would like to thank the local fitness businesses for their eager participation in this program.”
