JESSI Toet is donating 36 centimetres of hair to support people who are fighting cancer.

The Holy Trinity Lutheran College student and Dimboola resident spent just over two years growing out her hair for the cause.

Jessi spent time fundraising for the Cancer Council and is set to donate her six plaits to Sustainable Salons.

Jessi said she wanted to donate her hair and fundraise because she had witnessed people that had experienced cancer.

“I wanted to do a small thing to get them to get a wig,” she said.

Jessi said before her teachers, family and friends helped her cut her hair she was nervous and excited at the same time.

“I had a massive haircut at the start of 2020 so I’ve been growing it since then,” she said.

“I set up a fundraising page and my goal was to raise $1000.

“When I checked the morning before I cut my hair it was at $1700 so it feels pretty good to have beaten my goal.”

Jessi’s hair was cut at a Holy Trinity Lutheran College assembly on March 21, with students having an out of uniform day and donating gold coins for the cause.

Jessi’s mum, Antionette Toet said at the assembly that the family was very proud of her efforts and plans to help others.

“Her goal was $1000 and she is well on track to double that,” she said.
