Kalkee C-reserve netballers win first premiership
Ever since the C-reserve grade was introduced into the Horsham District Football Netball League in 2014, Noradjuha Quantong had won five of eight premierships and was going for number six against Kalkee.
Kalkee finished on top of the ladder and came into the grand final as the favourites, and it showed with the Kees storming to a seven-goal lead at quarter-time, extending it to seven at half-time.
However, in the third quarter, they put the game away, scoring 12 goals to eight to lead by 17 goals at the final break.
In the last quarter, the game remained goal-for-goal with the Bombers winning the quarter by a goal. In the end, the Kees won by 16 goals, 38-22.
Sophie Pietsch was adjudged best on the court, shooting 22 goals. Chloe Reinheimer and Emma Kemp both scored nine and seven goals, respectively. Sarina Quick was outstanding as the goalkeeper.
Emma Criddle scored 18 for the Bombers with Sammy O'Beirne excellent through the centre. Sandra Treacy and Sienna Borinelli scored two goals apiece for the Bombers.
Kees coach Emma Kemp credited the girls for their work.
"It's hard to put into words what the feeling is like, as it's been a long time coming with this team, as we have been there in the past but haven't got over the line," Kemp said.
"To get there now and to win is unbelievable.
"I have coached for a few years, but this is my second time coaching this team, and they are incredible."
"This group are incredible. All credit to them as they all work hard and deserve it."
