Rain affects opening weekend
Only six of the ten matches in round one of the Central Wimmera Tennis Association were completed, with rain washing out the other four in challenging conditions on Saturday. The other match was a forfeit in A-special.
Drung South was up 7-3 in the Pennant competition before rain washed out their match against Kalkee.
Drung South's Logan Casey won two sets, partnering with Aaron Jennings to defeat Aiden Richardson and Jeff Friberg 8-2 and winning his singles set 8-5 against Jeff Friberg.
Marli Pymer also won her two sets for Drung South. She partnered with Yolly Molineaux to defeat Meaghan Pohlner and Cadi Streeter 8-1 and then partnered with Sandra Casey to defeat Debbie Lawson and Cadi Streeter 8-7.
In the other match at St Michaels, it was 5-5 before the match was washed out. Steve Schultz started the season in good form for St Michaels, winning his doubles set with Peter Hayes, 8-0 over Reece Harman and Brendan Nitschke and defeating Reece Harman 8-0 in his singles set.
Central Park's Willow Sainsbury also won her two sets, defeating Mia Rees 8-2 and partnering up with Sienna Nitschke to defeat Mia Rees and Kassie Peachey in their doubles encounter.
Matt Jones is also starting the season out in good touch for Central Park, winning both sets. He defeated Eli Bailey 8-3 in singles and partnered with Shaun Alexander to defeat Eli Bailey and Nick Robertson.
Of the completed matches, a notable result was in the A-grade match between Haven and Horsham Lawn McGennisken, which the latter won 4-8. There were three close sets, all won by Horsham Lawn McGennisken.
Chloe Reinheimer and Daniella Gillespie defeated Breanne Mills and Hayley Toet 8-7, Jake Maher and Bruce Maher defeated Matthew Cozens and Bailey Loft 8-7, and Luisa Boddi and Adrian Talay defeated Rachel Hateley and Jye Rossbotham 8-7.
